We are looking to recruit a qualified and practical Health and Safety Adviser to help us to continue to deliver high quality advice and proportionate responses to our risk situations.
This is a permanent role covering 37 hours per week and may be suitable for one person or as a job share.
Wiltshire Council enjoys a good safety record because of the teamwork between our managers and the team of Health and Safety Advisers. You will need the enthusiasm and motivation to want to help us continue to build upon that record.
About the role
As a Health and Safety Adviser, you will give practical and operationally viable advice to managers and headteachers to help ensure compliance and reduce risks to staff, schoolchildren and our other customers. You should be able to produce well-written reports and use IT effectively. You will also be a confident presenter and able to deliver training on core H&S topics.
Other core functions will include conducting audits at schools, leisure centres, depots, libraries and other council workplaces; and investigating accidents and near misses.
Knowledge and experience of risks associated with property maintenance issues will be useful as will any background within the local authority and education sectors.
The post is based in our award-winning flagship building in Trowbridge but we embrace flexible working and you may be able to work from other council workplaces across the county or from home.
We will expect you to hold a recognised H&S qualification and be working towards Chartered Membership of IOSH if not already of that status.
A strong practical background will be useful as will some experience of delivering training and an aptitude in using ICT.
Moreover though you will need to be responsive and customer-focused and be prepared to go that extra mile to find solutions.
