Working within the Estates and Facilities Management team and reporting to the Senior Security and Facilities Manager, the Health and Safety Manager will be responsible for creating and promoting a positive health and safety culture across the Museum’s sites, implementing and ensuring adherence to all safety legislation. The role will help give confidence in our ability to manage risk effectively as we embark on exciting, new and varied areas of activity and programmes of works.
Key responsibilities include advising and supporting all departments to ensure risk assessments are carried out, and providing training and support to ensure staff manage risk effectively. Further responsibilities involve carrying out regular site inspections and audits to check protective policies and procedures are properly adopted, organising and preparing reports for Quarterly Health & Safety Committee meetings, and liaising with officials from the regulatory authorities to ensure the organisation is compliant with mandatory regulations.
The successful applicant will have demonstrable experience of working in a Health and Safety function, ideally in a similar organisation, as well as health and safety qualifications and/ or experience equivalent to a professional grading such as ‘Graduate’ Member of IOSH or ‘Member’ grade of IIRSM. The role holder will have an interest in and understanding of the relevant legislation with the ability to effectively communicate the requirements of regulations. As such, excellent communication skills are required to explain health and safety processes, give presentations and provide training to a wide range of people, and ensure a collaborative approach across the organisation. Proven organisational, time-management and planning skills are also essential.
This is a full time, permanent role in Band 5 – Management and Professional Specialists.The post holder will work 36 hours per week. These hours are typically 9am-5pm Monday to Friday, but the nature of the work means that flexibility may be required.
