Health & Safety Business Partner

We are now looking to recruit a Health and Safety Business Partner to work in our in house “Onward Repairs” direct labour team to delivery a first class repairs and maintenance service. The post holder will provide expert advice and support on health and safety and landlord compliance providing formal feedback to management on any significant findings and identifying practical recommendations.
About the role
This is a homebased position but will require the post holder visits sites and work closely with the Onward Repairs team as well as attending regular team meetings across Manchester, Accrington and Liverpool.
Responsibilities
- Framework
Conduct audits and reviews across Onward to ensure compliance with landlord and occupational health and safety legislation that’s also consistent with best practice. Identify areas of non/partial compliance, recommending pragmatic and practical solutions for resolution to address non-compliance, providing support with implementation to deadlines.
- Risk
Give timely advice and support to the business as the subject matter expert on risk assessments, partnering management teams to establish a plan to reduce risk and develop safe operational procedures.
Support the provision of periodic risk assurance reports to executive teams and committees as required, including but not restricted to health and safety reviews, incidents and accidents statistics along with all agreed H&S KPI’s to support the sharing of information, the management of risk and strategic decision making in respect of Health and Safety.
- Competent Person
Acting as a trusted business partner you will help to drive the H&S strategy across the business, supporting exemplary H&S practices, promoting a culture of safety first and monitoring compliance. As the subject matter expert you will resolve ad-hoc queries and issues from Onward colleagues and managers relating to Health and Safety.
Provide expert advice and guidance on a range of specialist areas, e.g. fire regulations, hazardous substances, Asbestos, machinery CDM etc. to ensure both preventative and corrective actions are taken as appropriate.
- Administration
Administration of all H&S systems to ensure Health and Safety actions are recorded and monitored following up on any non- compliance. Analysing the information recorded to support risk management and the Health and safety strategy.
- Training requirements
Devise and deliver H&S training aligned to the needs of the business. Assisting in developing and implementing Onward Health and Safety Policies, procedures and guidance.
Skills, Knowledge and experience required
Essential:
- Demonstrable experience post- qualification of working in a health and safety role including a partnership approach to applying Health and Safety Legislation.
- Thorough knowledge of relevant health and safety legislation.
- Organisational skills, within a team environment but also an ability to work on your own initiative.
- Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal).
- IT skills to include demonstrable Microsoft Word, Excel (2010) and database systems.
- Experience in conducting Health and Safety audits and of drafting forma documentation.
- Experience of working with and influencing stakeholders.
- Maintain a thorough knowledge of relevant Occupational Health & Safety legislation underpinned by Continuous Professional Development.
- Proven experience in a built environment (housing or construction).
Desirable:
- Knowledge of Landlord statutory compliance: Asbestos; Gas Safety; Legionella and Fire Safety.
Qualifications
Essential:
- NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent.
- Membership of Grad IOSH (Bachelors/PGD/MHC, NQF/QCF Level 6 Diploma (BSC), NVQ Level 5 Diploma, SCQF Level 10 Diploma or Cognate Degree)
Desirable
- Update PD program to achieve CMIOSH status.
- Demonstrable Knowledge of the CDM Regulations
