Fire Safety Engineer

This role will support the production of fire safety cases (delivered by Safety Case colleagues) in accordance with AWE Management Arrangements. This will be at the forefront of a wide variety of work, involving ground-breaking innovation and technical challenges across a wide range of projects associated with:

  • AWE’s multibillion-pound Capital Programme of new facilities.
  • Planning future systems in support of the UK’s long-term strategic deterrent.
  • Maintaining and extending the life of existing facilities.
  • Decommissioning of redundant facilities.

Location – Reading / Basingstoke area

Package – £35,720 – £50,000 (depending on your suitability and level of experience)

You will be trained and supported in the conduct of the following:

  • Interpretation of existing fire strategies (buildings).
  • Interpretation and understanding of existing Fire Risk Assessments.
  • Identify & record fire load inventories.
  • Fire Hazard Identification studies.
  • Production of Fire Hazard Assessments in support of Safety Cases.
  • Fire Modelling-. Experience and/or knowledge of fire engineering computer software, i.e. fire & smoke transport modelling, etc (advantageous).
  • Analysis of the thermal properties of materials

Ideally you will have:

  • Degree or Postgraduate in a science or engineering based subject or extensive experience in the field.
  • Knowledge of fire safety legislation and the relevant guidance within the UK.
  • Good interpersonal/communication skills, report writing and presentation skills.

Desirable background:

  • Knowledge and experience of working on a site containing radiological, chemical and/or explosive hazards (This can be developed in role).
  • Chartered engineer (or actively working toward this)
  • Associate or Graduate Member of IFireE (AIFireE or GIFireE) or have a membership of a relevant professional body (or actively working towards this).
