Council is seeking a suitability qualified applicant to fill the permanent full-time position of Work Health and Safety Partner and Systems Officer. Experience is preferred; however Council is willing to support the training and development of the right person, making this the perfect career change opportunity!

Based at our head office in Sale, Victoria and reporting into the Coordinator Work Health and Safety, you will work alongside business leaders and teams across our various sites within Wellington Shire. This role offers a great variety of challenging functions, with a diverse mix of both field and office work. Your key duties will be to assist with the facilitation of ongoing, best practice Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) programs, processes, reporting and the ongoing administration of the organisations OHS incident and reporting software.

We are looking for someone who is passionate about safety and who is a highly skilled communicator. The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to interpret relevant OH&S legislation and regulations. You will develop close relationships with management and supervisors in proactively responding to identified OH&S issues and assisting teams to implement effective controls measures. Your flexibility, willingness to grow and strong communication skills will ensure you are successful in this role.

Our ideal candidate will have a minimum qualification of Certificate IV in Occupational Health and Safety and previous experience in Local Government would be advantageous but is not essential.

Newly qualified undergraduates in a Bachelor of Occupational Health and Safety degree are strongly encouraged to apply as this is a great role to start and further your health and safety career.

If you have strong analytical skills, experience in maintaining online OH&S computer software systems, a level-headed approach and are passionate about safety then we would love to hear from you!

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate how they meet the criteria below:

  • Tertiary level qualifications in Occupational Safety and Health and/or relevant discipline.
  • A strong understanding of theory, practice and legislation relating to work health and safety, risk management and injury management.
  • Ability to use and maintain a comprehensive Occupational Health and Safety Management System.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage OH&S projects from conception through to implementation.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
