JOB TITLE: Safety Practitioner, SAT Coaching focus – Traveling

The Safety Practitioner is responsible for implementation and coaching leadership and teams for growth of Safety Action Teams (SAT) within our customers’ operations located in various places to create intentional culture. The Safety Practitioner cares deeply about people and is absolutely clear on how they represent safety. They actively seek and learn more about the Workplace Learning System’s safety culture approach and are internally driven to innovate and provide greater service to others on safety. The pace of progress in establishing the safety culture of the customers’ operations will be influenced by the advocacy and coaching of the Safety Practitioner.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Gain understanding and believe in the WLS Safety Approach, specifically SAT, and how to implement in a variety of operations
• Responsible for SAT implementation and initial coaching across various client locations, typically 6 month engagements
• Travel 80%- participating in activities in manufacturing facilities
• Remotely support client facilities between on-site support trips
• Build rapport with leadership in client facilities and establish credibility with associates on teams
• Ensure client facilities are equipped with deliverables agreed upon at the start of the engagement. Those typically include, but are not limited to:
• 2 fully functional SAT
• Facility is ready to launch teams 3 and 4
• Leadership of the facility has been coached and equipped with the knowledge and resources to facilitate and foster teams after engagement concludes
• Ensure SAT know how to and are making decisions based on data and facts
• Facilitate leadership’s understanding of the impact of recognition on the SAT participation
• Provide leadership with regular coaching and guidance on how to foster and participate appropriately in teams
• Provide Plant Managers and Safety Staff with regular feedback on what is going on and what opportunities exist
• Assist in identifying SAT training needs and deliver trainings as appropriate
• Assist teams in building of initial charters and teach leaders how to facilitate charter building
• Teach teams how to regularly establish goals and ensure they are met or exceeded
• Partner with other WLS Safety Practitioners to leverage and share best practices
• Track and document hours spent on client related support activities
• Effectively coaches others at their respective levels to continuously strive to increase their knowledge
QUALIFICATIONS
• Familiarity and ability to discuss and coach teams within WLS approaches and practices
• Experience leading teams through internships, co-ops or other employment
• Experience in coaching a team how to become effective in both soft and hard skills
• Understand emotional intelligence and its effect on a team and facility’s effectiveness
• Understand organizational change, methods, and approaches and support business needs for consulting, training, and business development
• Experience as a recognized safety advocate with influence in the organization
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
• Experience as a recognized safety advocate on an emotional level to allow you to personally influence other people in the organization (this experience does not include managing safety or environmental systems)
• 5 years experience in manufacturing facilities
• 4-year degree in Engineering, Environmental and Safety required
• Preferred Safety Certifications (ASP, CSP, CIH, or equivalent)
• Technical competence in basic data interpretation and computer programs
• Experience dealing with feedback and leadership teams
• Language (Competent in English; Spanish a plus)
• Travel (Up to 80%)
