OSHA releases guidance on preparing workplaces for COVID-19

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has issued guidance for workplaces to help them prepare for COVID-19.

As businesses across the world close or introduce working from home measures, there are many industries that have been left feeling ill-prepared for the outbreak of Coronavirus and how they can protect the workplace and their workers during the outbreak.

Whilst the document is not a standard or regulation, and instead outlines recommendations and information on mandatory safety and health standards, it is a publication that will be welcomed by many companies across various industries. The document first outlines what COVID-19 is and how it can impact workers and the workplace, and then continues to provide guidance on how businesses can act.

The current sections are:

  • About COVID-19
  • How a COVID-19 Outbreak Could Affect Workplaces
  • Steps All Employers Can Take to Reduce Workers’ Risk of Exposure to SARS-CoV-2
  • Classifying Worker Exposure to SARS-CoV-2
  • Jobs Classified at Lower Exposure Risk (Caution): What to Do to Protect Workers
  •  Jobs Classified at Medium Exposure Risk: What to Do to Protect Workers
  • Workers Living Abroad or Traveling Internationally
  • For More Information
  • OSHA Assistance, Services, and Programs
  • OSHA Regional Offices
  • How to Contact OSHA
