Somerset (Hybrid working available)
Contract: Permanent
Salary: £49,282 – £52,413 (depending on experience)
Annual Leave: 30 days + bank holiday

Car Allowance: Generous mileage allowance

Are you a compliance expert ready to lead a team and drive building safety across Somerset?
We’re looking for a highly skilled and motivated Compliance & Building Safety Specialist to join our leadership team. You’ll play a pivotal role in ensuring the safety and compliance of our housing portfolio, managing a dedicated team and working collaboratively across departments and with external partners.

About the Role:

As a key member of the Compliance & Building Safety Team, you’ll lead on all aspects of building safety and compliance, including the “Big 6” (fire, asbestos, legionella, lifts, electric, gas). You’ll oversee inspections, audits, data accuracy, and contractor performance, ensuring our homes meet all legislative and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead compliance programmes and ensure statutory responsibilities are met.
  • Manage a team of officers, coordinators, and data leads.
  • Oversee inspections, audits, and implementation of safety recommendations.
  • Maintain accurate compliance data and reporting systems.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Support procurement, contract management, and budget oversight.
  • Drive innovation and continuous improvement in compliance processes.
  • Lead resident engagement strategies related to building safety.
  • Respond to emergencies and participate in out-of-hours duty rota.

What We’re Looking For:

  • In-depth knowledge of housing compliance regulations and building safety legislation.
  • Experience managing teams and delivering high-quality services.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Analytical mindset with attention to detail and data accuracy.
  • Relevant qualifications (e.g. NEBOSH, IOSH, P405, fire safety certifications).
  • Ability to lead audits, manage risk, and drive performance.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.

Licence/Certification:

  • certificate in Fire Safety (preferred)
  • certificate in Health & Safety – IOSH, NEBOSH (preferred)
