To implement and manage the Gist’s Health, Safety & Wellbeing systems and to provide general support throughout the businesses and our sites. You will also help drive and deliver the Gist Health, Safety & Wellbeing (HSW) agenda through active and visible engagement of all stakeholders.
Reporting into the Site General Manager and supporting the Business Unit Head of HSW Manager you will help establish and maintain the highest HSW standards within Gist whilst providing health, safety wellbeing & environmental advice, guidance and coaching to our teams.
Your responsibilities
- Provide competent health, safety and environmental advice to meet all appropriate legal and IMS policy standards. This includes but not limited to; warehouse safety, driver & fleet safety, vehicle maintenance unit safety, facilities management, environmental compliance, health and wellbeing, cultural improvement and emergency preparedness
- Facilitate the implementation of the Gist HSW Strategy and Risk Registers
- Report on key issues and progress against Gist HSW Strategy, Safety Action Plan and Risk Registers
- Review accident trends, hazard reporting trends and assist site management in the development of site Safety Action Plans relevant to the Safety issues/risks identified
- To ensure consistent and appropriate training materials (including Induction, job specific training, Safe Systems of Work) are delivered effectively by site trainers (TWI) across each location
- Deliver Site Specific HSW training and Toolbox talks to site teams, Safety Representatives and Representatives of Employee Safety
- Review & approve method statements for high risk operations
- Assist and support site management in the investigations into relevant accident, incidents and injuries
- Assist operational teams with emergency planning and arrangements, including testing of emergency plans
- Carry out HSW management system audits/inspections at our sites and offices
- Monitor and ensure outputs from audits/inspections/reviews and any corrective actions are raised and owned by leadership teams at your respective sites
- Implementation and sharing of best practice and key learnings across locations
- Pro-actively participate in the HSW Function discussions to support a continuous improvement programme and assist in the updating of the company HSW management system
What you will need to succeed
Essential
- NEBOSH National General Certificate as a minimum
- Technical member of IOSH (or equivalent)
- Minimum of three years’ experience in health, Safety and environment advisory role in a medium or high risk industry
- Experience in the delivery of HSW and environmental related training
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to engage and influence at all levels
Desirable
- NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent)
- IEMA Certificate (or equivalent)
- Mental Health First Aider
- Knowledge of the logistics/distribution sector inc MHE equipment
- Facilities/Building/Property Safety management knowledge
- Chartered membership or IOSH (or equivalent)
- Strong accident and incident management & investigation skills
- Experience in the delivery of Environmental related training
