Audley retirement villages are set in unique locations where our village owners can retire in a peaceful and lavish setting. Audley villages comprises of owners, who permanently reside on site within their own private homes and who pay a management fee for the upkeep of their properties and access to services on site. The village also hosts external customers, and this role is responsible for providing a first class, positive experience for both types of clients.
Role Purpose
The Health & Safety Manager will be accountable for leading the implementation of the Health and Safety Strategy, under the ISO 45001 Occupational health and safety management system, risk insurance and business continuity programs within Audley. Work with the Directors, Health and Safety Advisors and the necessary specialist teams to deliver safe systems of work, H&S solutions (including some training) consistency and visible support to the Villages and Care Teams.
The Health & Safety Manager will support Audley to create, communicate and drive a robust and interactive HSE culture through the business, positively impacting on preventing accidents and incidents, reducing insurance claims, and contributing to the achievement of current objectives and targets.
Principal Accountabilities and Responsibilities:
- To create and embed a strong Health and Safety culture throughout the organisation
- Lead, coordinate and manage ongoing compliance with ISO 45001 across the business
- Act as the ‘Competent Person’ to assist Audley in undertaking the measures needed to take to comply with the requirements and prohibitions imposed under the relevant statutory provisions
- Maintain management oversight of the insurance program, in consultation with the Insurance Broker, Insurers and third parties to ensure risk improvement, effective claims management and Insurer inspections to meet statutory requirements
- Develop and maintain a business continuity program across Audley ensuring a robust emergency response and control framework
- To support the Health and Safety team and provide coaching, guidance, and direction to the wider management team to ensure that the Health and Safety strategy is delivered effectively throughout the organisation
- To undertake and revise operational risk assessments and introduce risk reduction strategies; and where required build these strategies into the Safety Management System
- Lead and oversee an internal audit and inspection programme to ensure compliance to both HSE standards, ISO Standard, and group requirements, with the ability to demonstrate continual improvements in the business.
- Support the implementation of change initiatives in relation to HSE where necessary and embed Audley values and propositions
- Maintain knowledge of all applicable legislation and industry standards and notify management of implications, trends, and best practice
- To provide information, technical specialist advice and guidance in line with current UK Health and Safety Legislation
- To liaise, with external enforcement agencies in relation to health & safety, food safety and fire compliance matters
- Promote HSE best practice and consistency across the business
- Act as the contact and liaison for all matters of Health & Safety. Across the Audley Group Ltd
- Report and escalate any apparent deficiencies in management systems of work, work activities or equipment that may result in failure of service delivery or risk to health and safety or the environment to Head of Risk & Governance
- Report monthly on the safety and compliance program to the Head of Risk & Governance
Key Skills & Requirements:
- The ideal candidate will be an experienced Health & Safety Manager within a multisite environment and qualified to Degree level in Occupational Health and Safety with Technical or QHSE qualification
- The candidate will ideally hold or be working towards Grad IOSH level / CIEH
- Knowledge and experience of legislative requirements such as COSHH, Fire Safety, Food safety, Health & Safety, business continuity management, Insurance program management and Safeguarding of customers
- Strong communication skills including influential to organisation stakeholders, external partnerships, and internal teams
- Experience of developing a high compliance culture advising, coaching, and training individuals
- Must be able to write clearly and succinctly in a logical and structured way – incident and management reports
- Must have good analysis and IT skills to produce practical solutions to a range of problems

- As this role covers a large geographical area you must be a car driver with a full clean driving licence with business travel insurance and be able to travel, with overnight stays where necessary
