The role

As the assistant to the Fire Safety Surveyor within our Building Safety team, you will undertake the management of designated fire risk actions, such as replacing fire signage, changing locks and conduct repair work, reporting regularly to the Fire Safety Contracts Manager on your progress. You’ll be responsible for the financial expenditure of sundry purchases of items up to the value of £1,500 per calendar month.

Our Fire Safety Surveyors will call upon your support with post inspection of new door installations in terms of quality of installation and user operation, in addition to assistance with their roof void site inspections. You’ll also liaise with central departments and contractors as and when needed, keeping up to date notes in the compliance monitoring platform Risk Hub. As far as possible within the role, you’ll help to ensure that all Southern Housing owned and managed properties are maintained to the highest possible fire safety standards, and that all fire safety policy outcomes, statutory and regulatory requirements are met.

Your main office base will be Fleet House, Farringdon, where you’ll be required to travel to once a month. You’ll be predominantly working across sites in Reading, Luton and Watford. Some hybrid working will be included.

What you’ll need

  • Knowledge of Health and Safety in construction practices and understand the key health and safety requirements and regulations relating to own area of work, e.g., Working at heights, Asbestos awareness.
  • Knowledge of the Regulatory Reform Fire Safety Order 2005.
  • Knowledge of the requirements for the installation of fire doors, their necessary components and operation.
  • The ability to use the appropriate IT tools to produce reports, documents, e-mails, including Excel and word. Training will be provided for the use of Risk hub and passive fire compliance monitoring dashboards.
  • The ability to undertake site visits, which may include working at heights, competent with the use of ladders and access equipment etc.
  • A full UK driving licence and have access to a vehicle for use in connection with the role.
