At DB Cargo UK, we’re currently recruiting for an Occupational HSSE Lead supporting the whole of the UK. The role supports our sites and managers to ensure the safe operations of all elements within the business.

Our Safety Team at DB Cargo UK play a vital part within our operation. They set the standards and operate at a strategic level to ensure that we are always operating with safety as our priority. Safety is an essential pillar of our business and runs through every process.

As the Occupational HSSE Lead you will be the main point of contact to provide support, coaching and guidance on matters of health, safety and wellbeing for employees and managers within DB Cargo UK.

What will you be doing?

You will support sites in maintaining a safe place of work and ensure that any serious omissions or breaches of legislation are brought to the attention of the relevant managers when local responses fail to resolve issues.

You will be responsible for maintaining compliance with UK / EU legislation and company standards and undertake compliance checks of those standards. Areas of non-compliance will require your support and coaching.

Investigate accidents and incidents where requested, and advise on root cause investigation, making recommendation to prevent reoccurrence.

Monitor occupational Health and Safety performance through the weekly conference calls.

Analyse trends in occupational health and safety and assist the business to develop both short and long term countermeasures to prevent reoccurrences.

Advise on any identified safety related training needs.

Attend the business and industry working groups were deemed business beneficial. This may include Network Rail, RSSB (Rail Safety Standards Board) and internal stakeholder meetings.

Provide support and guidance to procurement on contracts that may impact on Health and Safety.

Monitoring and verification of all Competence Assessment Regimes in line with the compliance matrix.

Identify emerging regional risks and provide guidance to the business on recommended cause of action.

Support the Talent Development team on the content of training programmes.

What are we looking for?

Rail experience would be beneficial for this role and well as experience in a multi-site environment or large organisations.

We would look for candidates with NEBOSH General Certificate and those who have a general understanding of the implementation and maintenance of ISO Standards, including ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.

Good verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills are essential.

The ability to establish a rapport with all levels of management and safety representatives will be a key requisite in being a successful post holder.

Able to carry out effective investigations, audits, inspections and compile reports and recommendations as appropriate.

Full and clean driving license.
