Systems Safety Engineer – Rail (ETCS Onboard Projects)

We’re looking for a Systems Safety Engineer to support ongoing ETCS onboard projects. You’ll be responsible for carrying out safety assurance work in line with CSM-RA and CENELEC standards — making sure our systems are designed, delivered, and proven to be safe.

Location: Hybrid (UK-based)
Type: Full-time, Permanent

What you’ll be doing:

  • Planning and delivering safety assurance activities in line with the system safety plan
  • Running hazard identification workshops and keeping the project hazard log up to date
  • Completing hazard analysis and assessing risk through design and delivery
  • Making sure safety requirements are identified, implemented and verified
  • Carrying out risk assessments at each stage of the lifecycle
  • Communicating clearly on safety and risk issues across project teams
  • Working with operators, assessors, certification bodies and other key stakeholders
  • Producing hazard analysis reports and safety cases to CENELEC EN 50129 standards

What we’re looking for:

  • Experience in safety planning, hazard analysis and producing assurance evidence
  • Knowledge of CENELEC EN 50126/50128/50129 and CSM-RA
  • Experience with safety-critical ETCS systems
  • Understanding of CCS NTSN and Assurance NTSN
  • Background in the UK rail industry (rolling stock experience would be a bonus)
  • Familiarity with configuration management and verification & validation processes
  • Good communication skills and confidence working with different stakeholders
