Health and Safety Officer

A worldwide textile manufacturer are looking for a Health and Safety Officer to join their team. The Health and safety officer will provide a professional health and safety service to all staff and ensure the organisation meets the health and safety legislation.

Responsibilities:

  • Carry out risk assessments and consider how risks could be reduced.
  • Outline safe operational procedures which identify and take account of all relevant hazards.
  • Carry out regular site inspections to check policies and procedures are being properly implemented.
  • Make changes to working practices that are safe and comply with legislation.
  • Prepare health and safety strategies and develop internal policy.
  • Lead in-house training with managers and employees about health and safety issues and risks.
  • Maintain records of inspection findings and produce reports that suggest improvements.
  • Record and investigate incidents and accidents and produce statistics for managers.
  • Report accidents, diseases & dangerous occurrences to the enforcing authorities where required.
  • Keep up to date with new legislation and maintain a working knowledge of all Health and Safety Executive (HSE) legislation and any developments that affect the production/textile industry.
  • Ensure the safe installation of equipment.
  • Manage and organise the safe disposal of hazardous substances, e.g. asbestos.

 
Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3 year’s experience in a Health and Safety role, developing and implementing Health and Safety policies and procedures.
  • Experience of working in a manufacturing environment.
  • Specialist knowledge of technical issues relating to chemicals, machinery, asbestos, personal protective equipment.
  • Knowledge of current health and safety legislation and compliance with such legislation.
  • Experience of collating and analyzing data and interpretation of complex legislation.
  • Experience of production and presentation of reports, briefings, training to a variety of audience levels including Director.

Salary: £30,000 -£35,000
