We are currently seeking an ambitious individual to join our team as a Global Head Workplace Safety, working together with colleagues to define, manage and achieve divisional business targets.
Role Purpose
The purpose of the Global Head Workplace Safety role is to ensure that HSBC implements policies and procedures which reduces the number / severity of health and safety incidents (including near misses); implements a plan to ensure HSBC’s compliance with all Health and Safety (H&S) legal requirements / H&S best practice, drives to achieve global standards whilst understanding and seeking to optimise the cost of managing health and safety across HSBC.
In this role, you will:
Ensure that the management of health and safety within HSBC complies with the many different health and safety related regulatory and legal bodies that have authority in all of these jurisdictions regarding the health and safety of our employees and ensuring the health and safety of staff and third parties (customers, visitors, contractors and the general public when visiting or in the immediate vicinity of any HSBC location)
Protect the reputation of HSBC in relation to health and safety; setting, updating, communicating and owning health and safety policies / procedures which meet international standards and best practice for similar institutions; managing health and safety communication channels (i.e. the intranet)
Have accountability on behalf of executive management for ensuring that HSBC provides a first class health and safety risk management control process which complies with national legislation, national codes of practice and HSBC policy and supports the Banks three lines of defence risk structure
Ensure HSBC provides a first class health and safety risk management control process to reduce the number of accidents to employees and third parties, and as a consequence raises the profile of health and safety management across HSBC
Own and develop a forward looking health and safety strategy to identify the H&S risk profile; to improve the effective management of health and safety; to improve HSBC’s health and safety policy and process; to consider emerging health and safety issues; and to embed a process of continuous improvement of health and safety practices
Own and implement a risk management process for health and safety which ensures health and safety practices are operated consistently and to ensure compliance with HSBC policy, local health and safety legal requirements/codes of practice and good practice
Own and develop health and safety policy and process which is up to date; effective; efficient; is based on / benchmarked to international best practice
Requirements
To be successful in the role, you should meet the following requirements:
Have extensive experience / evidence of implementing operational strategies
Strong knowledge of health and safety (preferably experience of managing health and safety in a similar size of organisation, with similar geographic coverage and similar high brand value.
Appropriate health and safety qualification at NEBOSH Diploma (UK) equivalent or degree level and membership of recognised professional safety body
Demonstrated ability to improve health & safety compliance / reduce health & safety incidents within a significant business and across multiple geographies
Demonstrated experience in managing customers, stakeholder and third parties in a global context
Strong collaboration and networking abilities to effectively work with / achieve change through colleagues in global, geographic and regional roles who may not work in CRE or who may have conflicting agendas; and third parties providing services to CRE where such services have health and safety implications
Strong leadership, communication and motivational skills
Proactive, energetic / enthusiastic, team player
