This role is responsible for supporting the Manager – SHE in managing, developing and promoting safety, health and environment best practice across the Group with particular focus on Occupational Health and Safety, ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation, approved codes of practice and guidance in relation to employment and service provision.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
• Assist in the formation and implementation of health and safety policies and procedures, setting long and short term objectives, deciding on priorities for improvements and determining appropriate performance standards.
• Promote a positive health and safety culture and awareness of relevant legislation, codes of practice and good health and safety standards through the development and implementation of policies, procedures, guidance and training.
• Advise and assist managers on matters concerning health, safety and environmental welfare of Group employees or others who could be affected by the Group’s activities, including, but not limited to, such matters as safe systems of work, hazard identification, risk assessment and hazard control measures and procedures.
• Deliver in house training programmes as and when required.
• Undertake accident reporting duties in accordance with RIDDOR and Group procedures, including assisting management with carrying out investigations.
• Assist in the monitoring of the SHE performance of contractors on site in line with CDM regulations.
• Assist the business in meeting its requirements under the CDM regulations.
• Carry out regular site inspections to check policies and procedures are being properly implemented.
• Take ownership and complete delivery of assigned projects for SHE improvement activities.
• Complete any other tasks as commensurate with the level and nature of the post as delegated by the role’s line manager.
• Liaise with Occupational Health colleagues as appropriate regarding advice and guidance on health risks and controls, particularly in the areas of HAV’s, Noise, DSE, Musculoskeletal, Health Surveillance and determining potential causation and control measures.
