The Brigade Safety, Health, Environment and Fire (SHEF) team provides assurance that Regular, Reserve and Cadet Units are meeting both Safety and Environmental Management legal compliance and MoD conformance requirements.
This post offers an exciting opportunity to work at the heart of a lively Brigade Headquarters in the exciting and continually evolving area of SHEF, focusing primarily on Environmental Management, engaging with a variety of locations throughout Wales.
The successful applicant will work in a job-share role working 17 hours per week, usually Wed – Fri. However, there may be occasions to work on alternative days to assist with assurance audits or to attend training and meetings.

Job description
The job holder is the focal point of contact for all matters relating to Environmental Protection (EP), providing advice and support. You will coordinate the Management of EP by providing assurance of Legal Compliance, and Conformance. This includes
Conduct assurance on all Army dependencies, providing Direction and Mentorship as necessary to ensure that EP Governance is fully met and collaborate closely with SHEF Management personnel
The post requires travel to various locations across Wales and will therefore involve the occasional overnight stay. Additional time will be reimbursed as Time off in Lieu (TOIL).
Responsibilities
Key Areas of Responsibility:
Produce and collate visit reports, provide supporting advice and guidance.
Supervise remedial and corrective actions, trigger points and trends. Upload reports onto the Army Reporting Management Suite (ARMS 2).
Liaise with the formation SHEF branches, focal points and Army Force Protection Advisors (AFPA) across the organisation in addition to other specialists’ personnel.
Coordinate and collate reports and returns, including Utilities Data and Environmental Management for Army Sites (EMSAS)
Act as Focal Point to promote initiatives such as World Environment Day.
Act as secretary for SHEF meetings to review environmental performance standards
Attend formation SHEF Meetings,
1-2-1 Safety Panels
Quarterly Assurance Meetings.
Support with the build of the SHEF Delivery Plan
Supervise and support the EP Objectives and Targets
Assist in conducting Training Needs Analysis, identify deficiencies, the provision and delivery of EP training.
Instruct Line Manager on EP risks.
Inform dependencies of mitigation to be put in place to bring risk to As Low as Is Reasonably Practicable (ALARP).
Assist dependencies on conducting Climate Impact Risk Assessment Methodology (CIRAM).
Ensure the annual re-registration of Site Hazardous Waste Premises Codes.
Provide timely EP mentorship.
Responsible for the dissemination of EP Law and MoD Policy. Identify Best Practice.
Qualifications
No pre-requisite qualifications, however, there will be requirement to attend a number of specialist Environmental Management courses in order to undertake the role and achieve vital levels of proficiency; some of these courses are held at locations outside the AoR and will require overnight stays.
