We would like to appoint a dynamic Band 6 Theatre Practitioner to Support the Theatre/DCU Manager to ensure ongoing compliance with Health and Safety standards .The objectives of your new role will be to continually promote improvements of HS&E performance across main theatres and Day Case including the health, safety & welfare of all users and the consequences of accident/incidents. You will be helping to assist the Theatre Managers by providing technical operational advice and by reviewing audit compliance. You will work closely with different departments to improve HS&E and tackle challenges, measure performance of plans and ensure risks are reduced as far as is reasonably practicable.

The post holder will actively deliver and develop the implementation of care for both adults and children undergoing operative procedures. All practice will be evidence based and take into account current theatre research. The practitioner will work within an agreed model of care; assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating individualised programmes of care, taking into account the specific physiological, psychological and social needs of the patient.

The role will involve the setting and monitoring of professional standards of care ensuring Trust policies and procedures are adhered to.

The practitioner will lead and co-ordinate the Theatre Teams in order to efficiently and effectively facilitate pathways of care for both scheduled and emergency operating lists. They will liaise with staff to assemble all instrumentation and equipment necessary to facilitate day to day operational effectiveness. The practitioner will take responsibility for the forward planning of both elective and trauma activity ensuring all non-standard equipment is available and processed.

Your day to day responsibilities may include the following:
development and maintenance of Health, Safety & Environment Policies
promoting Health, Safety & Environment legislation
ongoing training and education regarding relevant Health and Safety issues
monitor Health, Safety & Environment objectives and report achievement to risk management groups, theatre managers, theatre users group
monitor and audit, relevant, risk assessments (including DSE, COSHH, Fire etc. manual handling)
ensure that all accidents, injuries, dangerous occurrences and work-related diseases are investigated and actioned as necessary
monitor and review performance of any Sub Contractor and report back as required.
