As part of a wider diversity agenda, we are excited to be able to advertise full-time and part-time opportunities for Safety Consultants in our Internal Technical Support (ITS) team. This team works closely with clients, across a range of delivery teams, working as intelligent decision makers and Subject-Matter Expert (SME). They ensure military equipment is safe to operate with world leading capabilities which makes a big difference to projects integral to supporting the UK Armed Forces!

Within the Internal Technical Support (ITS) team, you will become a sought-after Subject-Matter Expert (SME), contributing vital expertise and managing safety risks across a wide breadth of high-profile projects and equipment, from combat aircraft and armoured vehicles to submarines and aircraft carriers. You will influence safety decisions across the full project lifecycle of the equipment used on the frontline. This will be from design and build, to through-life support, and the safe and responsible decommissioning of the equipment.

Please note, that due to the nature of the projects involved, some of these roles will require applicants to be Sole UK nationals.

Responsibilities for Safety Consultant

The responsibilities, will include, but are not limited to:

  • Working on complex products, systems, and services
  • Sourcing fixed priced technical consultancy tasks to meet customer needs and ensure they are delivered to cost, time and customer satisfaction
  • Negotiating and deliver against a commitment to carry out accurately costed tasks
  • Developing artefacts/evidence used in the assessment of safety risk, and consider the implications of changes to equipment design, offering mitigation advice in the process
  • Implementing and developing safety management systems for products, services, or systems, as either part of design or in-service support

What you will be assessed against

To be successful with your application you must demonstrate that you meet the following essential criteria:

You will have demonstrable and relevant consultancy experience as a safety advisor, with the ability to scope and deliver high quality outputs to time and cost against developed programmes of work

  • You will hold a minimum of a Level 4 (e.g., HNC) qualification in an engineering or science discipline, or will demonstrate equivalent relevant industry experience
  • You will have demonstrable experience using a range of safety tools and techniques, to provide advice and guidance on complex projects, e.g., Hazard Log Management; Hazard Identification; Risk Assessment and As Low As Reasonably Practicable (ALARP) justifications
  • You will have demonstrable experience in the development and writing of safety artefacts in support of compelling safety bodies of evidence.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Permanent
Part-time hours: 20 per week

Salary: £43,350.00-£51,000.00 per year
