Job description
We, at DE&S, have a unique opportunity for passionate and dedicated Engineers to join the Fire and Escape Systems (FES) team. Successful applicants will join our integrated and multi-functional team of highly skilled professionals. With positions available in our Fire Safety and Water Safety teams, we’ll help find the best team fit for you!

As part of our ships business area, FES is responsible for providing support to a designated range of Maritime Engineering equipment & systems. We plan and deliver support to a variety of master equipment encompassing the following main components, lifesaving, evacuation and firefighting equipment on both submarines and surface ships. Specialising in life rafts, lifejackets and buoyancy aids, man overboard recovery, mass evacuation systems, submarine escape equipment, damage control, fire detection, fixed fire-fighting equipment, and portable fire-fighting equipment, the successful applicants will provide assurance that each of these are safe to operate, efficient & effective, resilient and reliable.

In these roles, you’ll play a critical part in assuring that the Royal Navy and Royal Fleet Auxiliary ships and submarines maintain operational capability. Responsibilities
As one of our Engineers in FES, your goal will be to ensure we are delivering and supporting military capability through life. You’ll provide technical advice, support and guidance that influences water safety and firefighting equipment design, requirements, and policy and strategy, whilst monitoring and enhancing performance.

Within FES, your key responsibilities may include, but not be limited to, the following:

• Provide specialist technical advice for maintenance and obsolescence reporting
• Follow established procedures in support of maintaining defence capability
• Support equipment inspections, technical investigations, test and trials, and issuing necessary technical recommendations
• Implement and maintain clear routes of communication with all key stakeholders
• Empower and mentor a small team or individual
• Provide engineering support to safety cases, hazard reviews and commercial documents

Please note, the successful applicants may be required to travel to other UK sites and military bases on occasion.

What you will be assessed against

To be successful with your application you must demonstrate that you meet the following essential criteria:

• You will have a relevant HNC (e.g., Level 4 or higher) qualification in an engineering or related technical subject, or equivalent relevant experience
• You will have experience looking after safety related equipment
• You will have experience in stakeholder engagement/management
