We have an exciting opportunity for a HSE Manager (Utilities/Construction) to join our mission. You will lead and manages HSE for BGS (Domestic Customer Delivery) to ensure high standards of HSE are attained, continually improved and all legal obligations are met.

 

Key Accountabilities:

 

HSE Management

  • To support the delivery of the HSE strategy for BGS and to assist in achieving continuous improvement in HSE performance across all parts of the company
  • To deliver a single approach to HSE Management that meets the organisation needs, statutory duties and the expectations of key stakeholders with respect to HSE
  • To develop and deliver HSE management systems, processes and culture to ensure continual improvement and industry best practice
  • To provide assurance to the HSE Director and BGS SLT, by means of appropriate monitoring and intervention, that operations fulfils its obligations under HSE legislation
  • To support the development of BGS culture as the organisation rapidly expands and changes
  • Oversee, monitor and evaluate the operation of HSE performance nationally, working with senior management as appropriate
  • To offer competent advice on HSE matters to the company and its staff
  • To ensure that all sites are compliant with legal HSE obligations
  • To develop and instigate HSE initiatives
  • Ensure continual improvement and develop, in conjunction with the HSE Director, HSE targets, objectives and KPI’s

 

Leadership

  • Proactively engages, challenges & influences colleagues to deliver HSE compliance and drive continuous improvement in HSE performance
  • Uses knowledge to effectively oversee 3rd party contractor HSE compliance and performance
  • Roll-models the Centrica values and adopts new ways of working to drive improved decision-making, productivity & effectiveness
  • Supports internal stakeholders with HSE event investigations and acts as escalation point for BGS HSE issues
  • Analyses wide range of BGS HSE performance metrics including data from my HSES to inform areas of focus for upcoming contractor performance reviews; oversees that HSE activities, actions etc are completed in a timely manner
  • Coordinates HSE performance reporting to BGS LT, LRECS HSE, etc
  • Networks with HSE leads from other BUs including through HSE Forum to share best practice and maintain HSE standards

 

Contract management

  • Oversees the review and update of HSE contract terms with 3rd parties, especially those conducting fieldwork on BGS’s behalf to ensure these are fit for purpose
  • Ensures that the scope and quality of HSE content in contractor MBR packs and other reporting meets BGS’s requirements
  • Develops, documents, and implements consistent processes for monitoring and controlling of 3rd party contractors’ HSE performance
  • Ensures that adequate documentation is produced to evidence the monitoring & control of 3rd party contractors including HSE action tracking following MBR meetings

 

Skills and experience required:

  • Relevant experience in managing HSE at a senior level with direct reports
  • Experience of working in a similar field
  • An understanding of the regulatory sector and the management of risk
  • Experience in managing performance of 3rd party contractors
  • Experience of leading change projects
  • Strong self-drive and resilience to overcome challenges and deliver results
  • Relevant experience of building a strong and consistent culture of safety throughout an organisation.
  • BSc (Hons) Occ H&S / NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent
  • Barrier-based root cause analysis training (Sologic or equivalent)
  • Incident investigation experience in a recognised method i.e. Topset
  • HSE Auditor qualification preferred (ISO 45001 and/or14001)
  • Chartered member of IOSH (or actively working towards)
  • Evidence of current CPD

 

Travel requirements

 

The flexibility for national travel is required for this role
