We have an exciting new opportunity within our Health & Safety team, for a Health & Safety Advisor. This role will report into the H&S Manager and work alongside the occupation health team, operations and engineering.
The purpose of this role is to be able to offer expert knowledge and skills in order to generate and promote a positive health and safety culture, improving H&S practices, working towards zero harm. You will also be responsible for the development and maintenance of the safety management system, to ensure compliance with internal and external standards.

Hours: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week (Mon-Fri)

About the Role:
- Engage and work with the workforce to ensure safe practices are identified and implemented across the business unit;
- To plan, implement, monitor and review the protective and preventative measures that DP World London Gateway is required to follow and work to minimise operational and construction risks, occupational health problems, accidents and incidents and injuries in line with the ever growing changes on the site;
- To lead the planning, implementation, monitoring and reviewing of the OHSMS to ensure internal and external audit requirements are met, so as to maintain relevant certification.
- Provision of advice on all H&S matters for achieving best practice standards;
- Liaising with staff, contractors and third parties throughout the organisation to ensure HS procedures and processes are implemented and functioning as required
- Delivering Health and Safety related training and Induction;
- Writing technical management systems and reports, documentation for standards such as OHSAS 18001; ISO 45001
- Persuading reluctant staff and contractors to change their way of working;
- Devise, develop and monitor effective Risk Assessment management strategies and make recommendations on the implementation of these strategies;
- Consult with senior managers, other line managers, staff and contractors to give appropriate advice on best-practices, policies and procedures;
- Carry out or arrange workplace safety audits and inspections ensuring that any remedial recommendations are implemented;
- Carry out audit and inspections on sites which fall within the requirements of CDM;
- Champion on suitable and sufficient PPE for employees and contractors
Champion in COSHH assessment advice and ensuring completion against UK legislation
About you:
- NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Safety and Health, or NVQ Level 3 in Occupational Health and Safety Practice, or equivalent
- ISO 45001: 2018 Management Systems Lead Auditor Training
- Good computer skills are essential (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint).
- Knowledge of the requirements of OHSAS 18001 Safety Management Systems, and/or ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems;
- Experience in developing and maintaining SMS audit programmes;
- Experience in writing and maintaining SMS documents;
- Knowledge of UK OHS legislative requirements;
- Report writing and data analysis skills;
- Able to work in a very fast moving and diverse environment;
- The ability to present to a large varied group of staff, contractor workers and interested parties;
- Ability to influence and negotiate;
- Experience dealing with customers and external organisations;
- Willingness to take on additional responsibilities to progress and continue to develop skills and enhance knowledge base;
- Excellent oral and written communications skills.
- Knowledge of risk management, competency frameworks, human factors, incident investigation and root cause analysis and safety culture
Good Word/Excel skills
