6 month FTC opportunity to join us here at Phoenix Group as a Health & Safety Consultant to join our Health and Safety Team to support, provide advice and consultancy to ensure compliance with health and safety legislation so the Group is fully compliant with all relevant legislation.

Job Type: 6 month Fixed Term Contract

Location: Edinburgh office with time spent working in the office and at home.

Flexible working: All of our roles are open to part-time, job-share and other types of flexibility. We will discuss what is important to you and balancing this with business requirements during the recruitment process.

The role

  • Investigating, recording accidents and producing accident reports for Risk Insurance and the business, making appropriate recommendations for accident reduction in line with RIDDOR.
  • Overseeing and undertaking safety procedures, audit and inspection programmes as required to ensure compliance with legislation and company policy.
  • Monitor the control of contractors to ensure high risk activities are being properly captured and controlled, reducing the risk of business interruption or accidents.
  • Manage and influence key stakeholders in order to manage risk exposure.
  • Review and update risk assessments in conjunction with the relevant business areas to ensure they remain fit for purpose and accurately reflect the work undertaken and the controls in place.
  • Review relevant training requirements for employees and work with the appropriate area to ensure requirements are met.
  • Input suggestions and help design and deliver monthly well-being initiatives across the UK & Ireland in line with the well-being strategy, the brand Health Yourself and our key partners.
  • Building close working relationships, gaining credibility and providing an appropriate level of review, challenge and influence in business areas when these areas require different types of discussions and have different priorities.
  • Managing parallel assignments with minimal support, meeting expectations on agreed deliverables and timescales.
  • Continuously maintaining and developing technical knowledge and applying this in conjunction with significant business awareness in order to provide review, challenge and advice.
  • Expressing risk management to be understood by both internal and external contacts when there are different levels of understanding.
  • International element is predominately policy input and advisory.
  • Has authority to suspend any activity on group property deemed to be unsafe.

What are we looking for?

  • Experience in providing consultancy support to managers and staff in relation to Occupational Safety & Health and Risk Management.
  • Well-developed communication skills (oral, written including negotiation and influencing, report writing and presentation skills.)
  • Knowledge and experience with Workers Compensation and Injury Management, procedures and rehabilitation programs.
  • Certifications – Institute of Occupational Safety and Health
  • NEBOSH Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety
