Full Job Description
We are looking for a Health & Safety Advisor to provide competent expert knowledge and skills in order to generate and promote a positive health and safety culture and control occupational risk within the CVS Group.
The role is remote-based, covering the South of England in the Devon/Cornwall area.
The responsibilities:
- Ensure all safety legislation is adhered to and that policies and practices are adopted and implemented.
- Help to plan, implement, monitor and review protective and preventative measures in order to minimise operational losses, occupational health problems, accidents and injuries.
- Carry out Health and Safety Support Visits, accident investigations and audits as required to check policies and procedures are being properly implemented and to assist with safety related issues raised
- Chair develop and maintain regional/divisional Health and Safety committees, keep and disseminate accurate minutes
- Conduct and review risk assessments and consider how risks could be reduced;
- Review Fire Risk Assessments and work with sites to implement controls
- Define and document safe operational procedures which identify and take account of all relevant hazards;
- Recommend changes to working practices that are safe and comply with legislation;
- Complete and process accident reports in line with company process
- Keep records of incidents and accidents and producing statistics if required;
- Create, implement and contribute to the health and safety strategy and the development of internal policy;
- Create, conduct and lead training with managers and employees concerning health and safety issues and risks;
- Keep records of inspections findings, produce reports and suggest improvements;
- Keep up to date with new legislation and maintaining a working knowledge of all Health and Safety legislation and any developments that affect CVS Group;
The skills:
- Qualification in occupational health and safety, ideally level 6
- Previous experience in a similar multi-site role/environment
- Good understanding of the application of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and other legislation relevant to the Company’s business
- IT literate with a comprehensive understanding of Windows based programmes to include Word, Excel and Outlook
- Strong organisational, motivational, time-management and administration skills
- Ability to produce reports and develop relevant policies
- Good knowledge of data analysis and risk assessment
- Ability to work autonomously
- Attention to detail and observational abilities
- Strong communication and interpersonal abilities
- Ability to effectively influence others
