Safety Manager

Thiele Kaolin Company, a world leader in kaolin production located in Sandersville, GA, is seeking a Safety Manager. This position will be primarily located at the Deepstep Road Facility, but will be a presence at all TKC facilities (Sandersville Plant and Mines, Reedy Creek Plant and Mines and Deepstep Road Plant and Mines). MAJOR DUTIES:
  • Develop Safety objectives and goals with the Top Management Team through the President’s Safety Team.
  • Periodically review all updates from MSHA to ensure the company remains in full compliance with regulations.
  • Participate in and provide oversight and guidance to the Plant Safety Steering Committees each month to stay focused on achieving the safety objectives.
  • Ensure all safety policies, procedures, and protocols are effectively implemented throughout the company.
  • Establish programs and policies to ensure compliance for industrial hygiene requirements.
  • Develop and administer training as appropriate. Oversee employee safety training records.
  • Work with Supervisors on incident investigations.
  • Assist all departments with implementation of safety rules and regulations.
  • Participate in MSHA Site Inspections, ensuring sufficient and effective resources are assigned to accompany MSHA during the inspections.
  • Manage all workers’ compensation claims from reporting to final closure.
  • Provide oversight for each plant’s monthly Area Safety Assessment Teams.
  • Maintain the SDS 3E system by ensuring all new SDSs are entered and all SDSs are up to date and valid.
  • Provide oversight for Thiele Kaolin subsidiaries’ safety programs and compliance.
  • Submit MSHA reports in a timely manner.
SKILL REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Five or more years in MSHA or OSHA standards required, 4-year degree preferred.
  • Certified Safety Professional or similar preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; effective and dynamic training skills.
  • Ability to build trust, build purposeful relationships, and effectively motivate all levels of an organization.
  • Excellent organizational and observation skills.
  • Ability to establish goals, develop an execution plan, and implement change as needed to achieve the goals.
  • Ability to identify & mitigate hazards.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) required.
