Please find below another important update from the Health and Safety Executive…
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has been recognised for its contribution to Project ZEST, a major three year research programme supporting the safe use of hydrogen in aviation. Led by Airbus, the project won the ‘Shaping the Future’ award at the Aerospace Technology and Innovation Conference 2025.
HSE provided critical experimental work to understand the safety risks linked to future hydrogen technologies. This builds on more than 20 years of HSE leadership in hydrogen safety research, dating back to its founding role in the HySafe European network.
Professor Stuart Hawksworth, Head of HSE’s Centre for Energy and Major Hazards, said –
“This award confirms the key role we play in leading research into the safe deployment of hydrogen. The Health and Safety Executive continues to drive international collaboration and publish influential research in this area.”
The ZEST project reinforces HSE’s wider work across sectors, including hydrogen infrastructure, aviation research and international safety initiatives. Partners on the project included Trelleborg, Senior Aerospace, Cranfield University, Warwick Manufacturing Group, Manchester Metropolitan University and several UK universities.
