Nettle has raised $4.8 million in a Seed funding round led by MTech. The investment will fuel the global expansion of Nettle’s AI Workspace for Loss Control, a platform designed to streamline risk identification, evidence capture, analysis, and reporting into a single environment.
The risk engineering skills gap
The commercial insurance sector faces a growing challenge in loss control: assessing an increasing volume of physical risks with a dwindling pool of experienced risk engineers.
With backlogs currently stretching up to six months and an estimated 40% of risk engineers projected to retire by 2030, timely hazard identification is becoming severely strained.
For EHS professionals, delayed risk assessments mean prolonged exposure to unmanaged site hazards. Insurers and policyholders are left making decisions with incomplete data, often missing crucial loss prevention recommendations.
Using AI to streamline Loss Control
A standout feature of Nettle’s AI Workspace for Loss Control is that it democratises data capture by extending its guided inspection technology to agents and policyholders.
This allows insurers to economically gather consistent health and safety data on sites that they couldn’t previously inspect manually, while reserving scarce risk engineering expertise for the most complex hazard environments.
Othe key capabilities streamlining operations include:
-
Remote risk identification: Using AI and external data to flag potential exposures before a site visit.
-
Automated evidence analysis: Rapid processing of images, video, audio, and documents.
-
Instant reporting: Generating actionable risk scores and recommendations in seconds rather than days.
Jack Miller, Co-Founder and CEO of Nettle, says “Nettle has built a platform that turns Loss Control into a competitive advantage” by giving insurers the tools they need to identify, understand and act on risks without being limited by their team’s capacity.
Originally built for Commercial Property, the platform now covers all other lines including Liability, Construction, and Workers’ Compensation, offering a comprehensive tool to modernise health and safety risk profiles worldwide.
