Descartes adds predictive fleet safety intelligence with Idelic acquisition

Descartes Systems Group has acquired Idelic, a provider of AI-powered driver safety and performance management software, in a move that strengthens its fleet management offering and expands the data capabilities of its Global Logistics Network (GLN).

Announced on 23 April 2026, the deal brings Idelic’s predictive safety intelligence platform into Descartes’ wider logistics technology ecosystem. The acquisition is designed to help fleet operators make better decisions around driver performance, safety, and operational efficiency.

Idelic’s platform brings together core safety management tasks, including training, monitoring, reporting, and coaching, within a single system. Its AI-driven analytics are designed to help fleets identify risk earlier and reduce preventable incidents through more targeted interventions.

According to Descartes, Idelic’s platform is built on a dataset that includes more than 40 billion miles of telemetry and over 400,000 accident records. The business also integrates with more than 80 telematics, regulatory, and risk management systems, allowing fleets to access real-time event-level data across their operations.

James Wee, General Manager of Fleet Management at Descartes, said the acquisition strengthens the company’s final-mile and fleet performance capabilities.

“Productivity and safety are equally critical for fleet operators. This acquisition adds critical data to our Global Logistics Network and enhances Descartes’ final-mile footprint by adding highly advanced fleet safety capabilities and deep domain expertise. Idelic’s AI-powered predictive safety intelligence functionality, when combined with Descartes’ industry-leading route planning and execution technology, enables us to deliver a complete and cutting-edge fleet performance management solution that uniquely incorporates driver behaviour and safety signals into our robust operational data set.”

Edward J. Ryan, CEO of Descartes, said trusted real-time fleet and operational data is becoming more important as customers develop their AI strategies.

“By combining Idelic’s predictive safety intelligence and unique, critical data with Descartes’ GLN, we’re strengthening the data foundation that powers smarter fleet performance decisions and safer, more efficient operations.”

Idelic is headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Descartes acquired the company for approximately US$28 million in upfront cash consideration, with an additional earn-out of up to US$12 million available if revenue-based targets are met over the first two years following the acquisition. Any performance-based payments are expected in fiscal 2028 and fiscal 2029.

The acquisition reflects growing demand for fleet technologies that combine operational visibility with predictive safety insights. By bringing Idelic into the business, Descartes is aiming to offer a more complete fleet performance solution that links driver behaviour, safety data, and routing intelligence in one place.
